Unmatch & Repost a Case
If a matched case stalls, you can end the match and put the case back on the marketplace in one step. Your case details carry over, so you don't have to post it again from scratch.
Use Unmatch & Repost when a match isn't moving forward, for example:
- The receiving attorney has stopped responding.
- Your client withdrew.
- The case was matched with the wrong attorney.
- You couldn't agree on terms.
Who can use it: the case owner, plus case managers and admins at the referring firm. It's available as soon as a case is matched, up until the case is signed. Receiving attorneys can't unmatch a case.
How to unmatch and repost a case- Start from either place:
- Case page: open the matched case and click Unmatch & Repost under the case title.
- My Cases: go to Outbound, open the Matched tab, click the three-dot menu on the case's row, and choose Unmatch & Repost.
- Choose an Unmatch Reason. A reason is required.
- Click Unmatch & Repost to confirm. The match ends right away and the receiving attorney is notified.
- The Repost Case screen opens with your case details already filled in, including your Withhold Client Contact Info setting and any data room files.
- Review the details, make any changes, and click Post Case.
You'll land on the new case with a "Case reposted." confirmation. It's live on the marketplace with a fresh marketplace window and today's posting date. The original case stays in your Inactive tab.
Each case can only be reposted once. If you try again, you'll see "This case has already been reposted."
Before you confirm: the receiving attorney may have already contacted your client. If so, you'll need to handle any follow-up directly with them.
Choosing an unmatch reasonPick the reason that best fits. The receiving attorney sees it in their notification email.
- Unresponsive
- Client withdrew
- Error/wrong match
- Agreement/terms could not be reached
- Other (please specify): type a short reason in the field that appears
On the Repost Case screen, click Cancel. The match still ends. You'll land on My Cases › Outbound › Inactive, where the case is labeled Unmatched with the reason you chose and the unmatched attorney shown as the counterpart.
To repost it later:
- Go to My Cases and open the Inactive tab.
- Find the case and click Repost Case.
- Review your details and click Post Case.
If a referring firm unmatches a case from you:
- You'll get an email and in-app notification with the case name and the reason they gave.
- The case is removed from your Inbound › Matched tab.
- The message thread for the case is archived, and your access to its data room files ends.
If you've already been in touch with the client, contact the referring attorney to coordinate next steps.
The best way to keep a match moving is to stay in touch with the referring firm after you're matched.
